Taste of Beardstown
Bald Eagle Viewing
One of the luxuries of living on the Illinois River is the hourly opportunity to view or nation’s symbol in its natural habitat. Each year from December to March it is possible to view these majestic birds soaring high, fishing, taking care of their young, and going about their eagle lives. Although it is possible to see the eagles anywhere along the river front, the Beardstown Marina seems to offer the best viewing opportunities. There is a free telescope on the River View covered viewing stand where State Street meets the Illinois River. With the free telescope viewers can see across the Illinois River to see the Bald Eagle nests and Bald Eagles in flight hunting for fish in the Illinois River.
