All Around Main Street Newsletter 1/30/2013: (tentative publishing date) This is a quarterly newsletter sent to all Main Street businesses and friends. Plans for upcoming events and projects will be described in detail. A presentation of some fine articles and pictures of recently held events will also be included.
Appreciation Dinner 1/19/2013: An Appreciation Dinner for sponsors and volunteers of Beardstown Main Street. Dinner will be held at the Beardstown Elks Club at 6:30 p.m.
Annual River Rats Golf Classic (RRGC) 2/23/2013: This is a “Pub Crawl” held in the local bars. Each participating bar constructs a miniature golf hole and four person teams play each hole starting at 11:00 a.m. and continuing to 4:00 p.m. or until everyone has finished playing. Teams sign up at their favorite bar and entry fees are $25 per player or $100 per team. Each player is provided with a souvenir tee shirt of the event.
Beardstown Boost (Incubator Project) 2013: Beardstown Main Street’s project to help local entrepreneurs transition through that difficult first year of building a business. A task force of local experts in the various fields of finding and securing financing, securing grants and loans, developing a business plan, advertising and marketing, legal and governmental requirements, finding a location and just providing a sounding board for ideas, will be available. This is an ongoing project which we hope will become very successful. Please watch the local media for more information and announcements.
Banner Project April – May 2013: Beardstown Main Street is exploring the idea of placing 30” X 60” banners on utility poles on State Street and on Fourth Street. Businesses and organizations would be asked to buy two (2) banners (one for summer and one for winter) and hardware for one pole. Each banner will be specifically designed for Beardstown and will carry the name of the business across the bottom. The banners are guaranteed for a period of three (3) years. This project is intended to beautify our main thoroughfares, welcome people to our city and provide advertising for our businesses.
Downtown Flower Boxes 5/7/2013: Fresh flowers will be planted in the existing flower boxes and additional planters will be placed in front of downtown businesses. If you have a green thumb or a brown one for that matter, and would like to help spruce up the downtown, come on down. We can use you. Look for times and location in the local media or on Facebook at Beardstown Main Street.
Gospel in The Park 5/19/2013: This is a popular event we offered last year. Sixteen area pastors, church groups and individual performers provided diverse styles of gospel and religious music. The park was filled during the afternoon with beautiful music presented by the many performers.
Brown Bag Lunch – Wednesdays, June 5, 12, 19 & 26 2013: At noon on each Wednesday in June, music from local entertainers fills Art Zeeck Park for an hour of summer delight. There are refreshments available, including sack lunches, drinks and deserts, to go along with fantastic entertainment ranging from show tunes to folk songs, to gospel, to rock and roll and good old fashioned sing alongs. Come on down this year and see what surprises we have in store for you.
Cruise In on the Square 7/21/2013: It’s a hot summer night, you hear a roar of a burned out muffler and the squeal of rubber being laid on the street and you know it’s time for the 5th Annual Cruise In on the Square. The park fills with automobiles of all makes, models and colors, from candy apple red to green, and it brings back memories of years gone by, but not forgotten. At 7:30 p.m., the cars cruise the “Loop” that we once used to drive on a summer Saturday night. The cars return to the square for viewing after the cruise and we look and dream about the first rod we had, or wish we had.
A Taste of Beardstown 8/31/2013: What food do you like? You will probably find it and some you didn’t even know you liked on the last Saturday in August in Beardstown’s City Square. Twenty plus vendors will be offering the types of food that make Beardstown unique - American, Mexican, African, home style, restaurant style, festival style, pork chops, hot dogs, plantains, burritos, steak sandwiches, jambalaya, tamales, corn dogs, corn on the cob, ribs, polish sausage, sliders, beignets, elephant ears, lemonade shake-ups and snow cones. All the while, entertainment is provided on the bandstand in the park.
FFF 9/28 & 9/29, 2013: The last weekend in September brings the Fall Fun Festival with the largest parade in the tri-county area kicking off at 10:00 a.m. Entertainment will be provided on Sunday by Nashville Super group, “Gloriana”. There will be food for two fun filled days and Beardstown Main Street will be a part of this celebration again this year.
Open Meeting 10/8/2013: Because we receive public funds, we are required to hold a public meeting to discuss our accomplishments in the current year and our plans for the next year. This meeting is scheduled annually and the public is invited. It will be at 7:00 p.m., at the Beardstown Main Street office, located at 121 East Second Street.
Cass County Chase 10/12/2013: This was an event that the local Chamber of Commerce and the Office of Economic Development Center offered the last three years. Beardstown Main Street has agreed to co-sponsor the event this year with the Beardstown Chamber of Commerce. It is a team race around the county, scavenger hunt style, covering historical sites. The entrants are also required to complete various tasks along the route. It is primarily a fund raiser for the organizations promoting this.
Merchants Trick or Treat Halloween 10/31/2013: Beardstown Main Street and our sponsors will be treating all the little ghosts and goblins to hot dogs and soft drinks this year. Last year over 600 hot dogs were served to a great group of children.
October, Nov & Dec: Bringing in The Holidays: We will be decorating the Square along with other areas to bring in the Holiday Season. We will need lots of help through the months of October, November &December decorating the down town to usher in Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Holiday Season.
The Night Time Christmas Parade 11/30/2013: The sights and sounds of our 5th Annual Night Time Christmas Parade light up the eyes of young and old alike on the Saturday evening after Thanksgiving, as we bring Santa Claus into Beardstown and usher in the Christmas Season. The parade will begin at 6:00 p.m., and following the parade the floats and other entries will be downtown on the square for viewing. Santa is always there to greet both little ones and old believers. Christmas is a lot of fun right here in Beardstown.
Christmas in Beardstown Fundraiser 12/7/2013: At this time, we have not completed plans for a special event or project offering for the annual Christmas in Beardstown observance in December. However, we will be presenting something, so keep a look out for our planned offering in keeping with the season.
